Iceland's national football team moved one step closer to qualifying for the World Cup last night, when they beat Turkey 3:0 in Eskisehir, Turkey. Turkey's hopes of joining the World Cup were dashed but if Iceland beats Kosovo on Monday night, they'll be headed to their first ever World Cup tournament.

The Turkey team was a formidable opponent but the Icelandic team performed admirably, having secured a two-goal lead before half-time. The first two goals were scored by Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson and Birkir Bjarnason. Kári Árnason then sealed the victory with the third goal.

After Finland's draw with Croatia, Iceland's odds of qualifying for the World Cup are high and a victory over Kosovo on Monday night will secure their place in the tournament. This would be no small feat for our already impressive national team and make Iceland the smallest nation by far to participate in the World Cup.
