American David Balsam will visit Iceland next month in order to locate or gain any information on his Icelandic half-brother. RÚV reports.

His father, Roderick Donald Balsam, was an American soldier stationed in Iceland during World War II and had a son with an Icelandic woman around the years 1944-1945. David believes the mother's name to have been Guðbjörg Tómasdóttir, although it is entirely possible the name might be something else.

David contacted radio programmer Viktoría Hermannsdóttir after learning about her radio show Ástandsbörnin. In said show, Viktoría discusses the aforementioned Ástandsbörn (Children of the Situation), Icelandic children fathered by American soldiers. Viktoría delves into the harsh upbringing of these children, as having children with the soldiers was frowned upon during the time.

According to Viktoría, a lot of people have contacted her about possible relatives in Iceland, especially Americans. Viktoría asks anyone who might have any information on David's father to contact her.
